About performance

Where are the boundaries between reality and dreams? A visually compelling, expressive, humorous and fanciful contemporary staging of the Russian classic.

When Popriščin began to believe that he was the heir to the Spanish throne, everything suddenly became clear to him in his head. He found his freedom. In madness. For how else can a small person survive in a world full of information, events and an ever changing reality? What place on earth does the hierarchy of the world hold for such a man? Where is the line between reality and dreams drawn?

This visually compelling, expressive, humorous and fanciful contemporary staging of the Russian classic answers all these questions. This theatrically imaginative journey into the world of the hero's visions carries the best of Georgian and Italian acting tradition.

The metaphor of the crazy state of the world as perceived by one of Georgia's most important theatres, which has guested at festivals in the US, India, Israel, Italy, China and Germany, holds strong parallels with modern society. Directed by Levan Tsuladze, one of the most renowned and awarded directors on the Georgian theatre scene.
