DIVIDED HEAVEN

STATE THEATRE DRESDEN

About performance

He flees for a better life in the West; she makes a return to fair socialism in the East. The world famous novel of love over the Berlin Wall from the pen of the controversial author depicted by a rising German directing star.

The celebrated author of "The East", Christa Wolf wrote Divided Heaven in 1963. She was 32 years old at the time and the Berlin Wall separated her from the West for two years. Still full of the experience of the working work in a factory and full of faith in the young socialist regime in East Germany, she manages to insert the difficulties of life on the east side, criticism of food shortages, the tyranny of the ruling party leaders and foremen in factories between the lines of a love story. The film based on her work in 1964 was written into the history of German cinematography as one of the most important 100 works of the century.

The contemporary adaptation of the book was once a Nobel Prize candidate under Tilmann Köhler is one of the most interesting works from the last German season. A riveting play about lovers on both sides of the Berlin wall with new interpretational elements from the not so distant past by the theatre from the eastern German metropolis of Dresden.
